The weather was stormy and the clouds were gray and ominous. I was driving towards Kenai Fjords National Park from Anchorage and saw really incredible lighting developing so I pulled off the highway and headed inland towards the mountains. I found the Alyeska Resort area and stopped near a bridge to take pictures because the view up the river gave me a clear shot of the mountains in this gorgeous lighting. The Hawaiian Honeycreepers are relegated to increasingly high elevations by the spread of non-endemic mosquitoes that are spreading avian malaria in Hawaii.
